The ceremony itselfwill include a formal processional
to the platform, greetings from Chancellor Henry T. Yang and Dr. David Marshall,
Executive Dean of the College of Letters and Science, a brief welcome by the Associated
Students President Charlie Arreola, and a keynote address delivered by Chair and
Associate Professor of Asian American Studies, Dr. Diane Fujino. Vice Chancellor
for Student Affairs Michael Young will deliver closing remarks.
Over fifty faculty members and UCSB administrative officers will participate in
New Student Convocation in full academic regalia to add to the ceremonial nature
of the event. All UCSB staff members are invited to attend New Student Convocation.
To promote student attendance, Housing and Residential
Services and the Division of Student Affairs will close offices during New Student
Convocation on Monday, September 21, 2009.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Storke Tower, carillonist and Visiting Associate
Professor Margo Halsted will perform a concert on the 61-bell carillon of Storke
