Undocumented Student Services Interns

DanielaPicture
Daniela is a fourth-year majoring in Sociology and Chicanx Studies and minoring in Translation Studies. She is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and moved to Salinas, California at the age of nine. Daniela is excited for this new academic year and to help undocumented students on campus through USS. As the lead intern for the programming team she is excited for all of the programs and events that USS has to offer for students and the community and hopes to meet new students at events. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, hiking, listening to music, looking at memes and going to the beach. Aside from the internship, she is involved with Raices de mi Tierra, the folklorico group on campus. She enjoys being part of this organization and express herself and her culture through dance. For her last year of undergrad, she hopes to gain new experiences and enjoy her last moments at UCSB.
KatePicture
Kate (she/her/hers) is a third year, Sociology major looking into a double minor in Applied Psychology and Professional Writing. Undocumented Student Services has played a pivotal role in her college career as it provided her an opportunity for career-exploration and self-exploration. Alongside her work with USS, Kate is a Capps Intern under the Sara Miller McCune Endowed Internship and Public Service Program for Fielding Graduate University. When she is not in the office, you can catch her either attending all the free events on campus and in Isla Vista, or soaking up the warm sun at the park as she journals away. Something Kate would love to check off her bucket-list before graduating UCSB is to apply for UCLA Dream Summer and UCDC. Until then, she is taking it day by day, enjoying every moment that college has to offer her.
AnnaPicture
Anna is a second year Art and History of Art and Architecture double major from San Diego County. Anna was born in Mazatlan, Mexico but moved to the U.S at the age of 2. Anna hopes to pursue a career in architecture and design and she hopes to continue making art. Undocumented Student Services has especially helped Anna during her 1st year by providing resources, advice, and services in order to help her flourish as a first generation, undocumented student. Anna loves meeting new people and learning about new people, so feel free to reach out to her, whether it's for questions or for a friendly conversation.
MontsePicture
Montse is a fourth year Sociology major who transferred in the Fall of 2018 from her hometown community school in Oceanside, California. When coming to UCSB, she was surprised with the difference in ethnic and racial diversity compared to her hometown. Luckily Montse found a home in Raices de Mi Tierra, a baile folklorico group here on campus that strives to educate people through dance and where the members uphold similar cultural values and traditions like her. As a USS Intern this year she hopes to learn more ways to connect and help better equip undocumented students to succeed in college despite their status. Montse's post graduate plans are to attend graduate school in San Diego and receive her master’s degree in Social Work in order to help empower women and children who have lived through domestic violence.
YaftePicture
Yafte is a third year Sociology major and Sociocultural Linguistics minor from San Bernardino, California. She aspires to go to Graduate School and earn a Ph.D on Social Work to become a social worker and support low-income marginalized communities. On Campus, Yafte is a tour guide, visitor center intern, and a part of the undocumented student group IDEAS. You may often find her feeding the ducks near the campus lagoon, reading in the Monarch Lounge, or spending time with friends in Isla Vista.
ItzelPicture
tzel is a fourth year History of Public Policy major and is also pursuing a minor in education. During her time at UCSB, she has enjoyed being a part of the undocumented community and knows the importance of finding resources on campus. She is excited to be a part of the USS team and now be a resource herself to incoming students so that they feel supported on their campus. As she finishes undergrad, she hopes to make the most out of her fourth year by going to the beach as much as she can. She is working toward having a strong academic year and hopes to spend her downtime watching Love Island (UK).
ApolinarPicture
Apolinar De Jesus (He/Him/His) is a third-year undocumented queer artist who enjoys traditional art, fashion, and glamour. He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but grew up in the small agricultural town of Greenfield, California his whole life. Currently, he is an art major at UCSB, thinking of double majoring in English. He believes that there is a poetic and beautiful way of speaking when encouraging love and positivity. Furthermore, he is a part of many organizations on campus such as IDEAS, USS, UndocuQT, and Theta Nu Kappa Multicultural and Academic Fraternity. Through his involvement in these organizations, he is hoping to self-improve and become a great leader so that he can guide and help others to live their best lives.
