In 1992, the University formalized a "good neighbor" relationship with the residents of Isla Vista through the Neighborhood Support Measures and the Isla Vista Community Enhancement Recommendations, a strategic plan for the community improvement that was summarized in over one hundred recommendations. Over the years, UCSB responded to the mandate by issuing the annual Isla Vista Enhancement Report Update, which not only served as a mechanism to monitor the university’s efforts to address these recommendations, but also provided an avenue to highlight its many contributions to Isla Vista. The university recognizes and embraces its unique relationship with the community of Isla Vista and in 2005 decided to continue to share the good work the institution does on behalf of the community of Isla Vista in a new biennial publication, Living and Learning Together: The UCSB–Isla Vista Report. The 2005-2007 report will be available in fall 2008 at this website.
