Greek Week 2008!
It’s our favorite time of the year. Those few days in winter quarter in which we
come together to realize no matter the letter, UCSB GREEKS do it better! This year
we have the opportunity to come together to help those in Africa affected by the
HIV/AIDS pandemic. Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan stated, "We
shall not finally defeat AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, or any of the other infectious
diseases that plague the developing world until we have also won the battle for
safe drinking water, sanitation, and basic health care." This year, Greek Week will
focus on this philanthropy to raise money for the 1000 Wells Project of Blood: Water
Mission, a non-profit that drills wells in sub-Saharan Africa. These wells provide
a permanent, sustainable, and clean water source for those in Africa who are forced
to walk up to 10 miles a day to collect dirty, contaminated water that causes detrimental
diseases. It costs $1 to provide clean water for one person for a year, and we can
help save lives.
