In the belief that education and prevention are the best ways to combat
crime, the Police Investigations unit and the Rape Prevention Education Program
teach faculty, staff, and students how to minimize the opportunity for crimes
to occur and take responsibility for their own security and the security of
others.
- Investigations
In addition to investigating crimes, the Investigations unit develops
crime prevention resources and programs to help the campus community
protect property and increase personal safety and security.
- Rape Prevention Education Program (RPEP)
Sponsored by the Police Department and the Women's Center, the Rape
Prevention Education Program provides education and information about
sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. Programs
explain laws and definitions, suggest strategies to increase safety,
and dispel the common myths about sexual violence. The RPEP also
provides assistance for survivors of sexual violence and their families
and friends. Assistance includes crisis counseling, information about
reporting to law enforcement and the campus judicial system, help with
legal and medical questions, help with academic and housing problems,
and referrals to other campus and community resources.
