COUNSELING SERVICES

Counseling Services offers a variety of counseling and psychological services such as crisis intervention, psychological assessment, individual and group counseling, referrals to outside agencies, and stress management.

ELIGIBILITY

All registered students are eligible for services. When help is needed in sorting out a personal issue, Counseling Services is a resource for learning new skills in building self-confidence, being more assertive, relating to others, reducing stress, solving problems, and identifying options. Counseling can be particularly useful if academic difficulty is related to the personal distress.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Meetings with a psychologist or other professional staff member are treated confidentially at Counseling Services. Information about counseling sessions will not be released without written consent. Exceptions to confidentiality that are required by law include child abuse reporting and the protection of the client or an intended victim from harm.

APPOINTMENTS AND CONSULTATION

Counseling Services is located in Building 599 across from Storke Tower. Students can schedule an appointment in person Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, or call 893-4411 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm to schedule an appointment.

If immediate assistance is needed, it is important that the situation be identified as urgent or as an emergency; in these cases arrangements can be made for a student to be seen the same day. Faculty, staff, or students who are concerned about a student or desire consultation or assistance in making a referral are encouraged to contact Counseling Services at 893-4411.
