STUDENT PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS BY GRADE LEVEL
Please review the minimum requirements.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
8th Grade
  1. Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
  2. Enroll in and complete Algebra 1, if available at school
  3. Complete an Individual Academic Plan (IAP) through UC Gateways
Cabrillo

HIGH SCHOOL
Performance expectations may be modified if the courses are not available in the school. All courses must be A-G approved by the University of California.
9th Grade
  1. Complete Algebra 1 or Geometry or equivalent
  2. Complete English 9 or equivalent
  3. Complete a minimum of two of the following academic subjects:
    1. Language other than English
    2. Laboratory Science
    3. Social Science/College Prep Elective
  4. Update Individual Academic Plan (IAP)
  5. take the PSAT or ACT-EXPLORE
  6. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in A-G courses

10th Grade
  1. Complete Geometry or Algebra II or equivalent
  2. Complete English 10 or equivalent
  3. Complete Laboratory Science
  4. Complete two or more of the following subjects:
    1. Language other than English
    2. Social Science/Social Studies
    3. College Prep Elective
  5. Enroll in at least one honors/Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) or community college course, if available
  6. Update IAP
  7. Take the SAT-II in at least one subject
  8. Maintain at least a 3.3 GPA in A-G courses

11th Grade
  1. Complete Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus or equivalent
  2. Complete English 11 or equivalent
  3. Complete Laboratory Science
  4. Complete Social Science (US History)
  5. Complete Language other than English
  6. Enroll in at least two honors/AP/IB or community college course, if available
  7. Take and pass the AP exam with a score of 3 or better (if student has completed an AP course)
  8. Update IAP
  9. Take the SAT-/ACT or PSAT for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) eligibility
  10. Take the SAT-II in three subjects
  11. Maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in A-G courses

12th Grade
  1. Complete Pre-Calculus or Calculus or equivalent
  2. Complete English 12 or equivalent
  3. Complete Laboratory Science
  4. Complete Language other than English
  5. Complete one or more of the following
    1. Social Science
    2. College Prep Elective
  6. Enroll in at least one honors/AP/IB or community college course, if available
  7. Take and pass the AP exam with a score of 3 or better (if student has completed an AP course)
  8. If UC eligible, submit a UC application to at least three UC campuses
  9. Retake college entrance exams, if appropriate (SAT I, SAT II, ACT)
