The Educational Opportunity Program’s Transfer/Continuing Students Program can help
alleviate student’s anxiety about transitioning into a new environment as well as
enhance continuing students’ abilities to have a successful tenure at UCSB. To achieve
these goals, the TCSP stimulates academic and personal success among transfer/re-entry,
non-traditional, and continuing students by engaging them in interactive and community
building activities. The program motivates students toward, and assists them in
preparing for matriculation into graduate or professional school and/or the job
market.
Currently the TCSP consists of a coordinator, Mr. Jones, and seven peers: Stephanie
Van, Temitayo Akindele, Ryan Bealer, Sandra Santos, Adam Smith, and Steven Frausto.
They are available for one-on-one peer advising and help you plan your academic
and career goals. The TCSP Peers also provide informational and career workshops
on: time management and study tips, professional and graduate school preparation,
career exploration, and personal wellness. In addition to the aforementioned workshops,
the TCSP Peers provide and facilitate social events and programs through which you
will meet others in the transfer/continuing and non-traditional student community.
Mr. Jones, the Coordinator of the TCSP, has been an EOP Counselor for three years
and is also a former UCSB transfer student. As an undergraduate he majored in sociology
and received departmental honors. Upon graduation, Mr. Jones matriculated to California
State University Hayward where he earned his Masters in Social Work (MSW) degree
with an emphasis in Community Mental Health. He is a committed individual who possess
a wealth of information and knowledge which he readily shares with all students.
He is available for one-on-one counseling sessions and would like to meet all incoming
transfer/non-traditional students as well as continuing students. Mr. Jones wholeheartedly
believes in helping students matriculate to the next level of their education in
a cost effective manner. Therefore, he highly encourages transfer/continuing and
non-traditional students to participate in EOP’s TCSP activities and to learn about
and take advantage of available campus resources and opportunities.
