“Establishing supportive environments for student access and
retention must be a campus wide commitment. Similarly, the strategic institutional
location of cultural centers is critical to developing an academic environment,
which supports students of color in the classroom and other areas of campus life.
When center directors have access to both policy makers and institutional budgets,
retention efforts can be enhanced.”
-Edward Pittman, Assistant Dean & Director of the Intercultural Center of Vassar College
Our Present
The AdCRC opened its doors to the UCSB campus community on Wednesday, February 14,
2007, the opening day of the Student Resource Building (SRB). The AdCRC is a direct
result of the persevering efforts of students of the past and present. Prior to
the SRB move, the center was formerly housed in Building 434 under the former name
of the African American / American Indian Cultural Center.
