It’s very important to utilize the resources offered your first year. This time
is critical and when you’re most vulnerable socially as well as academically. Utilize
the tutorial services, participate in study groups and most importantly, listen
to the advice of upper-level students. One step at a time.
EOP had a tremendous impact on me during my 4 years at UCSB. The support, encouragement
and guidance that I received was priceless. Unfortunately, I didn’t participate
in the STEP program my freshman year and made poor class selections. As a result,
my grades suffered. But after some much needed counseling and guidance, EOP helped
me to develop a course of action that led to success.
Having received my B.A. allowed me to qualify me for a masters program at USC. The
valuable connection made with staff and professors yielded extraordinary
letters of recommendations that allowed my applications to shine. Being an educated
individual has given me the confidence to walk into an employer’s office expressing
my expectations and why I am a valuable asset. My quality of life is great. I have
been blessed to able to travel, provide for my mom and younger brother and be a
home owner.
I had so many great times at UCSB. Overall, I believe my time there shaped my philosophy
on the importance of an education.
