Dear EOP Student Staff Applicant:

We are pleased of your interest in applying for a position with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) during the 2008-09 academic year. For over 30-years EOP has developed a culture of awareness, advocacy, and advancement for all students, staff and faculty at UC Santa Barbara. We pride ourselves on the foundation of building a community of scholars that teach and mentor one another. EOP is committed to providing a support and information base that validates each student’s experience and nurtures a sense of participation, belonging and empowerment.

Our department offers several paraprofessional positions that will encourage you to think critically and act creatively as you serve as mentors to our student body. We feel our training and service programs can enhance your natural abilities and assist in developing skill sets that can further your professional or academic career goals. We focus on a holistic approach of services that interacts with students on a variety of social, academic and cultural interests. Thus, our student staff is introduced to and becomes well versed of the vast resources available at the university. An important requirement we ask of our applicants is that you are self-motivated, have passion to listen and dialogue, and are deeply committed to the idea of serving as a change agent in enabling you and your peers to be high achieving leaders on and off campus.

Attached are the application form and other documents regarding our informational sessions and application process. It is mandatory that you attend one of the January informational sessions to ask more detailed questions of our program and these positions. To that end, we seek a diverse staff representative of the campus and our communities. Excellence, achievement, leadership and community serve as key principles to EOP’s purpose, which can only be accomplished through the collaborative efforts of professional and paraprofessional staff members, like YOU!

I wish you the best during this hiring process and look forward to sharing the rewards of your selection as a member of our EOP student staff team.

Sincerely,

Pete Villarreal, Director
Educational Opportunity Program
