Key Programs and Services
  • Performing arts programs in dance, theater and music which bring professional artists of national and international stature to the campus for performances and a variety of classes, workshops and other interactions with campus and community audiences.
  • Public lectures and writers' readings on a broad spectrum of topics of interest to general audiences, as well as management of the campus Regents' Lectureship Program which brings outstanding non-academics to campus for short residencies.
  • Film programming specializing in international cinema, American independent films, and documentaries, in many cases films not otherwise seen in Santa Barbara and, when possible, presented by the filmmaker.
  • Ticket sales and information for dance and theater productions by the Department of Dramatic Art and Dance, selected Music Department concerts and opera productions and selected events presented by other campus departments.
  • An extensive community outreach and public education program involving artist residencies, particularly to underserved schools and neighborhoods, and collaborations with other Santa Barbara cultural organizations that enable the presentation of significant events - frequently in off-campus venues - that can only be made available to the public through empowering partnerships.
Faculty Involvement Opportunity
  • Academic departments co-sponsor selected lectures and cultural programs of broad public interest.
  • Academic departments nominate candidates for Regents' Lectureships, and the Regents' Lecturer selection committee is composed of faculty members.
  • Faculty collaborate with Arts & Lectures in developing and planning course-supportive programming.
  • Faculty interact with visiting artists and lecturers (e.g., hosting or participating in social and meal functions, introducing lectures, arranging classroom visits, workshops or master classes, etc.).
  • Faculty may derive personal and professional enrichment through attendance at a broad spectrum of cultural events presented by Arts & Lectures.
