Key Programs and Services

The Orfalea Family and University Children's Centers provide a quality child care program for student, staff and faculty families within the campus community. We strive to be a significant source of support for each parent while providing a caring environment for their children. The goals of the program strongly reflect an abiding sense of respect for children, their unique cultures and individual development.

Children from 3 months to 5 years of age are cared for in infant, toddler, preschool classrooms. The Center employs 37 teachers and 75 UCSB student teacher assistants who work and play with the children each quarter.

Because we wish the Center to be an extension of a child's family life, we offer a variety of ways for parents to become involved in their child's classroom activities and in the Center's Parent Council programs and events. In our work with children, Early Childhood Care and Education Services follows developmentally appropriate practices; we are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Faculty Involvement Opportunities

The Orfalea Family Children's Center serves as a learning environment for academic departments on campus by providing students with field placements and faculty and graduate students research opportunities involving children and their families. Classroom observations to satisfy course requirements can also be scheduled.
