In keeping with the mission of promoting cross cultural understanding
and appreciation of differences, the MultiCultural Center presents a
variety of educational programs. These include lectures, panel
discussions, musical performances, dance performances, films and
videos, poetry readings, informal discussions, workshops, dramatic
performances, and art exhibits.
The Center strives to promote a sense of belonging among students
of color, international students, and gay, lesbian, and bisexual
students. It works to facilitate the retention and recruitment of
students of color and to combat institutional racism and ethnocentrism.
MCC provides the space for events presented by other
departments or student organizations when the MCC or the User groups
are not using the space. The facility has an intimate 150-seat theater,
study lounge/gallery, kitchen facilities, and two meeting rooms.
The MultiCultural Center Lounge is a great space for people to
study, relax, read periodicals, or meet with friends. Every Wednesday,
the MCC hosts "Cup of Culture," a weekly coffee house and movie night
during which coffee, tea and light refreshments are provided.
Refreshments are also served during dead week and finals week, when the
MCC maintains a quiet and comfortable space for students to study.
The MultiCultural Center works very closely with faculty in presenting
pertinent programs. Recommendations for programs are constantly sought
from faculty. Often events, such as a lecture, film, panel discussion,
or musical performance, are presented in order to enhance academic
classes.
