Students who would like to be seen for a health concern can make an appointment by calling 893-3371 or online at www.sa.ucsb.edu/studenthealth. The appointment system is designed to meet the needs of busy college students by minimizing wait times. If you are not sure what your medical needs may be or have a medical question, you can call the Advice Nurse at 893-7129. In the event of an accident or illness that requires immediate attention (but is not life-threatening), students may come directly to Student Health and be seen by a practitioner. In this instance, the order in which students are seen is based on the severity of their problem, NOT on the order of their arrival. Note: If you are unable to get to Student Health, you can call the Yellow Cab Company at 965-5111, and the charge can be placed on your BA/RC bill.
Health Education provides several resources for helping students. Free confidential help with counselors who offer information, assessment, and referral services is available at Student Health. Topics include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; eating disorders; sexual health; nutrition; and stress management. For an appointment with a health counselor call 893-3371 or via our website. In addition to health counseling, academic classes are offered which teach real life skills in a helping-profession setting. Some of the classes are training classes that will prepare you for an internship as a Peer Health Educator. All classes give valuable personal and/or career experience.
