Purpose: Students for a Progressive Asian American Movement* (SPAAM) Directives 1. Creating and facilitating a space for Asian Pacific Islander Americans to organize on our community issues and turn it into effective action. 2. Empowering the Asian Pacific Islander* community with the distinct understanding that we are the ones that define our identity. Although lumped into the broad construct of “Asian Pacific Islander” we recognize that there are numerous difference in the Asian Pacific Islander diaspora, and shall work to interconnect the vast range of issues our individual communities face. 3. Using culture as a means of self-preservation is not enough. We need to continually critique and challenge, not only the political identity, but the political environment of the Asian Pacific Islander community. Culture like politics is dynamic, always changing never static. Hence, we choose politics as our platform as opposed to culture. *SPAAM: To clarify, the API identity was born out of the Asian American movement, hence the relationship between the name of SPAAM and its directives are not contradictory. *Asian Pacific Islander: We choose to use this identity as opposed to Asian American, because we are trying to make conscious efforts to be as inclusive as possible. And because the term “Asian American” does not address the complexities of having been historically categorized as the racialized other.

945. Wom of ColorRevolutionaryDialogues WORD(Vagina Dialogues)
Purpose: Women Of color Revolutionary Dialogues (WORD) represents young passionate womyn of color coming together, in a defined space, to collaborate and create self- expressive work about the issues that concern us today. We as womyn of color and allies are trying to offer an alternative to the Vagina Monologues, which we feel is a problematic production in its Erucentric ideas. WORD differs by being more INclusive and respectful of everyone's own unique experience. We offer a safe space for a collective of womyn to share their experiences through an art that allows us to see the similarities which unites us in solidarity, but also the uniqueness of each community that we must acknowledge and understand. This space allows womyn to move from the confined silence of private journals and diaries, and rise to speak with their body and voice, through various mediums of performance. It is for womyn, especially womyn of color, who have felt misrepresented, under-represented, or silenced, and want to claim their own bodies and voice back.
