2. Word of mouth

  • Go to the office hours of faculty and ask if you or he/she can annonounce event in a class
  • Provide information at a table in front of the UCen, Arbor, and special events such as the Activities Faire
  • Contact the presidents of organizations that may be interested in your event and ask if it can be announced at a meeting
  • Collect phone numbers and e-mails at events/meetings to develop future distribution lists

  • If your event is in the UCen, fill out a UCen Connection form at the UCen, and event info will appear on the UCen TV monitors
  • Collect e-mail address and fax number lists of people/departments that you want to target. To establish a listserv as a UCSB organization, go to http://www.isc.ucsb.edu/osg/listserv/listserv.html. You will need a campus department to sponsor your listserv.
4. The Daily Nexus
    No cost:

    Ads
(a rate chart & publication calendar is available at the Nexus advertising office):
  • Classified ads are very popular with students
  • Display ads are more expensive, but effective
5. Other publications
  • There are a number of organizations and departments such as L&S, Student Health Services and Orientation with publications or web sites which feature or list campus activities
  • 93106 is a campuswide newspaper distributed to faculty and staff with a calendar that will advertise events for free. Determine whether your event is pertinent to faculty or staff before contacting the editor, Vic Cox at Public Affairs, 893-4765, e-mail: vic.cox@ia.ucsb.edu.

6. KCSB
  • Write a Public Service Announcement-PSA-(a sample format available) and leave copies in PSA or news editors' boxes at KCSB office
7. Some basic don'ts

  • Don't post over others' events before they are over
  • Don't post a number of the same flyers in one place
  • Don't chalk or tape flyers on sidewalks
  • Don't post on trees, buildings, windows, bike path rails, lamp posts or signs
  • Don't leaflet classrooms, res halls, or other areas where the material will simply create litter for someone else to pick up
