Important Resources and Things to Know
Orientation is not mandatory, but it gives students an important head-start in preparing
for their college career. Approximately 96% of freshmen and
77% of transfers attend Orientation. Parents are not required
to attend, but by coming to Orientation they can learn more about UCSB and can gain
greater understanding of what students will be experiencing. More than half of incoming
freshmen bring at least one parent, and many transfers bring parents, spouses, or
partners.
The Educational Opportunity Program is a campus support service
for first-generation and/or low income students. If your student is a member of EOP,
during Orientation you will meet with staff from this program who will provide
valuable information on EOP services. Contact EOP at 805-893-4758 or
www.sa.ucsb.edu/eop.
There is not time during Orientation to make fall housing arrangements. Please plan
to arrive in Santa Barbara early, stay longer, or use our Sunday Arrival Option if
your student still needs to secure fall housing. If you have questions about housing,
contact the Residence Halls Contract Office at 805-893-5513 or the
Community Housing Office at 805-893-4371, or see their website
at www.housing.ucsb.edu.
Fall Quarter fees are due on September 15, 2009. A notification
will be sent to the student's U-Mail account regarding the billing statement.
Please note fee payment deadlines on the bill.
Illegal use of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited
during Orientation and during the remainder of your academic career at UCSB.
Students found in violation of campus alcohol and other drug policies during
Orientation will be subject to campus disciplinary procedures.
Students who are unable to attend Orientation in Summer 2009
can refer to
Alternatives to Summer Orientation on this website for valuable information
on preparing for their first quarter at UCSB.
