Reserve Your Space in an Orientation Session
Please read the information on this website about Parent Orientation (and Freshman
or Transfer Orientation) before the student completes the online Reservation Form.
See the description of the Program Options from which you can choose. It is especially
important that you have read and understood the policies outlined below on this
page regarding Program Fees, Changes and Cancellations. The student's Statement
of Intent to Register (SIR) must be received by the UCSB Admissions Office before
he/she can access the online Orientation Reservation Form.
Students and parents can sign up for an Orientation session by submitting the online
Reservation Form. This form is available on the
Freshman and Transfer sections of
this website. The names of parents who want to attend must be included on the student's
online Reservation Form. Submit the form promptly! Space in each Orientation session
is limited and session assignments are made based upon the order in which forms
are received.
Confirmation of Session Date
Freshmen: After submitting the online Reservation Form, a confirmation postcard
will be mailed to the freshman student indicating their assigned session date based
on their top four preferences. Allow approximately 7 days after submitting the online
form for confirmation by mail. Students and parents are not confirmed for Orientation
until the student receives notification of their assigned session date.
Transfers: Transfer students will be confirmed for Orientation when they complete
and submit the online Reservation Form. They must be sure to follow the directions
on the form until they reach the final screen that confirms their session date.
Program Fees
Program fees for all participants will be billed in the fall on the student's UCSB
BARC Billing Statement. Students are required to pay in full the amount of the fees
for all participants, including parents and guests, who have registered for UCSB
Orientation on their Reservation Form. Fee payment deadlines will be noted on the
statement. Fees are assessed per person and can vary depending upon program option.
Please see the Program Options section of this website for a description of the
various options.
If you have an annual family income of $35,000 or less, your student may qualify
to apply for a fee reduction. See the information below on how to apply for a student
program fee reduction.
Changes and Cancellations
Space in Orientation is limited and we would like to accommodate as many new students
and their parents as possible. Therefore, we must be notified as soon as possible
if it is necessary to change or cancel a student or parent reservation. Please select
your dates carefully. Any change to your reservation is subject to availability
and must be made at least one week in advance of your session date. There is a $25
service charge per change or cancellation for freshman reservations ($15 for transfers).
Services charges will be billed in addition to program fees on the student's UCSB
BARC Billing Statement in the fall.
Changes and cancellations cannot be made online. Please call Orientation Reservations
at 805-893-2197 if you need assistance.
Fee Reductions
A limited number of fee reductions are available to eligible students from families
with annual incomes of $35,000 or less. These are allocated based on need and in
the order we receive applications until funds are depleted. To apply, complete and
mail the Application for a Fee Reduction which is available by clicking on the link
on the Reserve Your Space page on the
Freshman and Transfer sections of this website.
If approved, the student Orientation fee will be reduced by $75.00 for freshmen
(or $35.00 for transfers) and the student will be billed for the remainder of the
fee in the fall. Fee reductions are for students only. Payment for parents, family
members, and guests must be made in full when you are billed in the fall.
Special Arrangements
Orientation Programs welcomes requests for special arrangements due to a disability
or other special need. If you want to attend Orientation but are not fluent in English,
our entire program cannot be translated. However, we will try to arrange for someone
to answer questions in your native language. Please call us at least three weeks
in advance so that we can make arrangements.
Out-of-State Residents: Please call our office when completing your Reservation
Form. We will assist you in choosing session dates that meet your travel needs.
