What is UCSB Parent Orientation?
Orientation for parents is a two-day visit to UCSB (or one-day visit for parents
of transfer students only) where you will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about a variety of student services including housing, financial aid, student
health, community safety, counseling, career planning, and the Educational Opportunity
Program
- Meet academic deans, faculty, and university staff and become acquainted with their
roles in the university community and their contributions to student learning and
development
- Meet current UCSB students and find out their perspectives on life as a student
at the Santa Barbara campus
- Learn about the many ways for parents and families to contribute to the adjustment
and achievement of a UCSB student, as well as the transition you will experience
at home
- Find answers to your questions about student life away from home, university level
study, and the academic and social environments at UCSB
First Timers Meeting
Parents who have never attended a college orientation will benefit from the First
Timers Meeting, which is held in the morning on the first day of freshman sessions.
Learn about what to expect from your two-day visit to the campus, when and where
to find answers to your questions, and how Parent Orientation will help both you
and your student in the transition to his/her first year at UCSB. First Timers Meeting
will begin at 8:30am. If you plan to attend this meeting, please arrive on campus
early and allow time to go through check-in.
Parent Comments
"Orientation reinforced our belief that UCSB is a great teaching school. As
alums, we felt we were already familiar with UCSB and attended Orientation only
to support our son. The program far exceeded our expectations. The content was appropriate;
the presentation effective. Our fears were explored and addressed, and our hopes
reborn."
"After attending Summer Orientation we feel like family. My daughter remarked
that she already feels like UCSB is home. This has been a terrific experience."
