Important Resources and Things to Know
Orientation is not mandatory, but it gives you an important head-start in preparing
for your college career. About 77% of transfers attend Orientation. Parents/family
members are not required to attend, but by coming to Orientation they can learn
more about UCSB and gain a greater understanding of what you will be experiencing.
The Educational Opportunity Program is a campus support service for first-generation
and low income students. If you are a member of EOP, during Orientation you will
meet with staff from this program who will provide valuable information on EOP services.
EOP can be contacted at 805-893-4758 or www.sa.ucsb.edu/eop.
There is not time during
Orientation to make fall housing arrangements. However, it is important to secure
housing in person as soon as possible. For assistance with housing, contact the
Community Housing Office at 805-893-4371 or
www.housing.ucsb.edu/hchoices/cho-general-info.htm.
Fall Quarter fees are due on September 15, 2009. A notification will be sent to
your U-Mail account regarding your billing statement. Please note fee payment deadlines
on your bill.
Illegal use of alcohol and drugs is
strictly prohibited during Orientation and during the remainder of your academic
career at UCSB. Students found in violation of campus alcohol and other drug policies
during Orientation will be subject to campus disciplinary procedures.
If you are
unable to attend Orientation in Summer 2009, please refer to Alternatives to Summer
Orientation on this website for valuable information on preparing for your first
quarter at UCSB.
Beyond Orientation
In addition to the Transfer Orientation Program, there are many continuing opportunities
for new UCSB transfer students during the academic year. These programs help address
common questions that transfer students have during the start of their UCSB experience.
You are invited to take part in these programs designed especially for new transfer students.
These programs include:
- Workshops on time management, test-taking strategies, and other topics presented
by Campus Learning Assistance Services
- Academic Outreach opportunities to other new students
- Workshops on career and personal development presented by Career Services
Summer Transitions Program
Transfer students will have the opportunity to begin
classes at UCSB this summer through the Transitions program. Please note that Transitions
is a separate program from Summer Orientation. All transfer students are
encouraged to attend Summer Orientation regardless of whether they begin their UCSB
studies in summer or fall. Orientation provides important and thorough academic
advising, early registration for fall classes, and an introduction to campus life.
If you are a Transitions participant, you are encouraged to attend Orientation in addition
to the Transitions advising held in June. See the
Transitions Program for more information.
