Preparing to Register for Classes
Your Orientation Academic Advisor will explain UCSB requirements, and help you select
and register for your fall courses. Before you can register, you may need to take
some important steps. Read the information in this section and make the appropriate
preparations so that course registration at Orientation will be as smooth as possible.
IGETC
The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a program of
courses accepted in lieu of the UCSB general education program. Normally, it must
be completed prior to transfer. You must have your community college send IGETC
certification and your final transcripts to the UCSB Admissions Office. Please consult
your community college counselor before your Orientation session to determine whether
you have completed IGETC.
All students who have not completed IGETC are required
to attend Academic Advising at 10:45am during Orientation.
Previous College Level Courses
All course prerequisites as listed in the
2008-2009 UCSB General Catalog
will be enforced during course registration. The online version of the UCSB General Catalog is
at www.catalog.ucsb.edu.
If you have met a UCSB course prerequisite with transfer
level courses or test scores, you must contact the department offering the course
prior to attending Orientation. Proof of prerequisite completion must be on file
with the appropriate UCSB department prior to registering for the course at Orientation
or in any future quarter. Bring copies of transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable),
grade reports, and test scores to Orientation to show proof of prerequisite completion.
