New Student Convocation
All new freshmen and transfer students are expected to attend this ceremonial induction into the UCSB community. Designed to promote the values of scholarship, leadership and citizenship the ceremony will include remarks by Chancellor Henry T. Yang; Dr. David Marshall, Executive Dean and Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts College of Letters & Science; Associated Students President Charlie Arreola; and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Young. The event will also feature a keynote address by Chair and Associate Professor of Asian American Studies Diane Fujino, and music by carillonist Margo Halsted and UCSB student a cappella group Naked Voices.

Faculty-Student Panel Discussions and Receptions
Following the Convocation ceremony, all new freshmen and transfer students are invited to participate in Faculty-Student Panel Discussions and Receptions. Faculty members will participate in a panel discussion with UCSB staff members and resident assistants to personalize and welcome new students’ entry into the UCSB academic community. Student living in an on- or off-campus residence hall will meet with their resident assistant in a pre-designated location in their residence hall; students not living in a residence hall will meet in the University Center Flying A Studios Room (main level); and students living in university-owned apartments will meet at Jameson Center in the Santa Ynez Apartments. Freshman living in Santa Catalina will meet for a reception on the pool patio and lawn outside of the residence hall at 4:30 p.m.

Late Night Meditation Vigil in Celebration of the International Day of Peace @ St. Mike's University Church
Join us for a short meditation vigil in our chapel's new meditation space as we sit together in candlelit silence and participate in simple prayers to celebrate the International Day of Peace (Sept 21). Take some time out of your busy day for quiet and reflection. Meet your fellow students committed to peace, action and spiritual practice.
