Our staff provides a supportive enviornment in working with students who find themselves in an emergency or crisis situation. Depending upon the nature of the emergency we will process necessary paperwork for students allowing them to focus on resolving the crisis situation. When requested, we will contact professors asking for consideration on behalf of the student, and we will make necessary contacts with other offices in providing information or referrals for the student. In cases of illness or crisis our staff will complete a student's request for filing Incomplete Petitions, Late Course Withdrawals and Administrative Withdrawals.
Basic letters of recommendation, including dates of attendance, units completed, cumulative grade point average, and a review of any disciplinary record are provided for students seeking admission to another institution of higher education, or enter military, government service, or other academic programs.
Students, as well as parents, are encouraged to contact our office when needing general assistance. Sometimes you may feel that you have exhausted every source of help and at other times you may not even know where to begin. In situations where there is a breakdown in the successful completion of an administrative process, such as complicated paperwork or withdrawals, we will explore options with the student or parents to facilitate a satisfactory resolution. Our staff is dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for our students by helping them overcome some of the frustrations they may encounter.
All students have class-level advisors through the Student
Resource Team. These advisors/coaches assist students in having a positive and successful
experience at UCSB. They are pleased to help students address any problems or concerns
with academic, social or personal experiences. Each month, advisors distribute monthly
e-newsletters with important events, workshops, advice, deadlines and other information
relevant to the class level they serve. They are also available for consultation
by email (simply reply to the monthly e-newsletter) or in person (private and confidential
appointments). Students should check their U-mail accounts after the first of every
month for the SRT e-newsletter. For more information about the program, please visit
www.sa.ucsb.edu/srt.
