Freshman Seminars—www.freshsem.ucsb.edu
The College of Letters & Science administers Freshman Seminars, which are one-unit courses that allow students to engage in meaningful discussions with professors from various disciplines. Limited to fifteen students, these elective courses allow freshmen with no previous knowledge on a subject to explore topics such as The Nature of Science, Contemporary Poetry Examined, How to Read the Wall Street Journal and Politics and Art. New topics are offered each quarter and students can take a maximum of three. Course listings are included in the Schedule of Classes under Interdisciplinary 94AA-ZZ. Whether you live in University-owned residence halls or apartments, or rent in the community, there are a myriad of services to support your success. Housing & Residential Life sponsors social, educational and multicultural programming and offers students a variety of ways to participate in leadership through volunteer and paid positions.
Peer Advisors
There are academic peer advisors in every academic college and major department—contact each college/department individually for more information (www.registrar.ucsb.edu/acaddeptdir.htm). In addition, the Educational Opportunity Program (www.sa.ucsb.edu/eop/) has peer advisors who work with transfer students and specifically focus on low-income and/or first-generation students.
First-Year Programs Interns

Student Resource Team—www.sa.ucsb.edu/srt/
All students have class-level advisors through the Student Resource Team. These advisors/coaches will assist you in having a positive and successful student experience. They are pleased to help you address any problems or concerns you have with your academic, social or personal experience at UCSB. Each month, advisors distribute monthly e-newsletters with important events, workshops, advice, deadlines and other information relevant to the class level they serve. They are available for consultation by email (simply reply to the monthly e-newsletter) or in person (private and confidential appointments).
