Works with Upward Bound participants to help with academic assignments. Helps
students with particular subject matter and provides general help with study
skills, time management, organization, etc. Provides students with information
regarding institutions of post-secondary education. Is responsible for
maintaining records of student attendance. Tutoring is available at Carpinteria
High School, San Marcos High School, Santa Barbara High School, Lompoc High
School and Santa Maria High School. Tutor-Mentors are required to work 6 hours
per week.
Pay rate: $9.56 per hour. |
Office Assistant |

Academic Year/Summer |
Works with the Upward Bound staff to provide general office assistance. Duties
and responsibilities include answering phones, providing program information to
public, general clerical work, aiding in organization of events and trips, and
maintaining organization within the office space. The Office Assistant is
required to work 12-15 hours per week |
Saturday College Assistant |

Works with the Upward Bound staff to organize Saturday College events and
provides general office assistance. Duties and responsibilities include placing
meal orders, picking up supplies, setting up and cleaning up at Saturday
College sessions. The Saturday College Assistant is required to work 10 hours
per week including two Saturdays per month.

Saturday College Instructors |

Academic Year |
We hire instructors to teach English, Math and Science courses at our Saturday
College sessions during the academic year. Saturday College takes place twice a
month and the classes are an hour and ten minutes long. Pay rate: $23.64/hour
of instruction

Summer Instructors |

Summer |
Summer instructors are recruited in April to teach courses during the six-week
Summer Program. English, Math and Science classes take place five days a week
for one hour. Elective classes take place Monday-Thursday for two hours.
Instructors are expected to create their own curriculum. |
Pay rate: $16.00/hour plus 1/2 hour prep time for instructional hour.

Resident Assistants |

Summer |
Resident Assistants are recruited in January to assist the Upward Bound
participants during the six-week Summer Program. This is a "live-in" position
in which R. A.'s supervise and provide academic and personal support to the
participants of our program. This is 24 hours a day, 6 days a week position. |
Pay rate: $2200 stipend
The Resident Assistant application can be obtained at an information session
that takes place in January.
