What is Upward Bound?
Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program for high school students who are interested in going to college and who are committed to working hard to achieve that goal.
What services does Upward Bound provide?
- Academic Year Services
- Tutoring in English, Math and Science classes
- Saturday College classes at U.C. Santa Barbara to develop skills needed for college
- High School Course Planning
- College Admissions & Financial Aid Advising
- Career Planning/Preparation
- Field trips to selected colleges and universities
- Academic Skills Assessment
- Summer Residential Program
Upward Bound conducts a six-week Summer Residential Program where students live at
UCSB and enroll in high school level English, Math, Science, and elective classes.
Our students also participate in a wide variety of cultural, social and recreational activities during the Summer Residential Program, which allows them to experience different aspects of college life while still in high school.
How often do these services take place?

Saturday College takes place 2 Saturdays per month from October to May.
Students are required to attend tutoring for 3 hours per week from September to June.
The Summer Program is six weeks and takes place during the months of June and July.

Who is eligible?
Low-income and/or first generation college bound students from the following six participating high schools are eligible:

How much does the program cost?
Upward Bound is free to all students who are accepted into the program.
