Weekly Groups and Workshops at the Women’s Center
Aging Parent Support Group
Tuesdays: 2nd Tuesday of the month • 12 noon – 1:30 pm
For those of us who face the difficult issues that com with being responsible for
the well being of our aging parents, life can be very stressful. Many decisions
we must make are overwhelming emotionally, physically, and mentally. Becoming the
“parents” of our parents is often a very uncomfortable and painful life transition.
This group meets as both a support group and an educational forum and is facilitated
by John Berberet, Academic & Staff Assistance Program Coordinator in Human Resources,
893-3318.
VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood
Tuesdays: October 7 – December 9 • 7 pm
VOX is a program that educates young Americans about the threats to reproductive
rights and mobilizes them in support of family planning and reproductive freedom.
All are welcome to join. Meeting times may vary so join the Facebook group to stay
updated.
Know What You Feel! Say What You Mean!
Wednesdays: October 15 – December 10 • 12 noon – 1 pm
(No meeting November 26)
This workshop teaches assertiveness skills, focusing on gender and cultural differences
in communication. Jane Carlisle, Ph.D. and Yu-ting Su will co-facilitate this workshop.

Students Stopping Rape (SSR) Peer Educators
Wednesdays: October 5 – December 10 • 5 pm – 6:45 pm
These peers are working to stop sexual violence by educating themselves and learning
how to facilitate educational discussion with other students. The meetings include
lively conversations about current topics, program planning and support for each
other in the struggle to change the world. To join, drop in to one of the weekly
meetings.
Gay, Bisexual & Questioning Men’s Discussion/Support Group
Thursdays: October 6 – December 11 • 5 pm
Counseling & Career Services, Room 1109M
This group is open to all gay, bisexual, and/or questioning men who are interested
in exploring issues of sexual identity and masculinity through open discussion,
personal sharing, guest speakers, relevant films, and non-threatening activities.
Attend any week and participate at your own level of comfort. All are welcome. Contact

Women’s Chat Group
Fridays: October 7 – December 12 • Time TBA
This all women’s discussion group is for students to talk about issues that women
face both on and off campus. Join these weekly chat groups in a comfortable and
safe place where you can share thoughts, exchange ideas, and discuss ways to deal
with issues facing UCSB women students. Each chat session will address specific
topics based on group interest. By discussing these issues, we hope to empower women
to become stronger and more confident individuals. Come join Women’s Chat and build

Women’s Support Group
This group is open to all individuals in the UCSB and local communities interested
in exploring issues of sexuality, love, family, work, college, relationships, religion,
and coming out in a supportive and confidential setting. Attend any week and participate
at your own level of comfort. If you are interested in this group, you can sign
up at the Women’s Center or at the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity
in the Student Resource Building.
Re-Entry Student Support Group
Re-entry and non-traditional students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
They are represented in all majors. They come to UCSB for a variety of reasons and
define themselves in different ways. This group provides focus on the specific needs
of and resources available to re-entry and non-traditional students. Children are
welcome. Sign up at the Women’s Center or in the Re-Entry/Non-Traditional Student
Resource Center in the Student Resource Building.
Men Against Rape (MAR)
Men Against Rape works to end violence against women by focusing on male responsibility
and emphasizing that rape is a men’s issue through educational programming and community
outreach. MAR works on educational projects, creates a support system for each other,
and leads group discussions on sexism, male privilege, sexual assault, and gender

Getting Your Life Back: A Group for Survivors of Adult Sexual Assault
This support group provides a safe place to talk about coping with adult sexual
assault. Gain strength through sharing your experience with others. An initial appointment
is necessary before joining the group. Please contact Eriko Kobayashi, Ph.D. for
an intake interview at Counseling Services, 893-4411.
