Program Series

The Women’s Center programs include films, lectures, discussion series, and other events designed to inspire critical thought and action. Check out our calendar of events to find out about upcoming programs.

Knowledge in Action

Programs in this series explicitly link the production of knowledge to concrete action. Lectures, performances, workshops, and hands-on activities serve to promote leadership, excellence, and social engagement within our community.

Student-Initiated Programming

These programs begin as proposals from individual students or student groups. Students fill out an application and receive support from the Women’s Center staff. Past events have included a Queer Hip Hop Show and an art exhibit and lecture by Nancy Hom. To propose an idea, contact Jess O'Keefe, program director, at jess.okeefe@sa.ucsb.edu.

Transforming Our Culture

These student-led programs and campaigns serve to educate the campus community about outdated cultural norms that contribute to inequality and violence. By breaking the silence about sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, this series helps to promote a campus culture of respect and equity.

Community Celebrations

These events celebrate the many accomplishments of women in the UCSB community. We host events to honor new faculty and administrators, tenured women, women authors, women athletes and other outstanding women.

Stay Centered

This series focuses on the holistic well-being of students, staff, and faculty.  From meditation classes to skill-building workshops, these events provide participants with tools to stay centered throughout the year.
