Students Stopping Rape (SSR) and Men Against Rape (MAR) are student groups focused on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in the UCSB community. RPEP Internships are a great way to get involved as well.
There are additional steps you can take to prevent this type of violence including:
- Speak up - If you see someone being hurt, say something
- Step up – Do something to help or get other people to help you
- Seek help – Contact resources including RPEP, police, and other campus and community resources. For referrals to police, healthcare providers, private therapists, and additional campus and community resources, please contact RPEP.
- Make a lasting impact
- Educate yourself on sexual and domestic violence and other types of oppression and violence
- Support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable
- Acknowledge your own privileges and stereotypes
- Challenge sexist, homophobic, racist jokes and other statements based on prejudices
- Refuse to be silent; silence condones hurtful behavior
- Encourage others to get involved as well
- Support and volunteer for student groups and organizations making a difference
- Invite RPEP to speak with student groups and organizations
- Create and support policies and procedures mandating education and training for students, staff and faculty
- Join rallies, write letters of support, and be active in social change
