Community of Practice

According to cognitive anthropologists, Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger, Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and meet regularly together to learn how to do it better. To support the professional development process at Student Affairs, ongoing Community of Practice (COP) training and work group sessions are offered on a monthly basis. The topics vary to include assessment training and preparation for the annual report. All staff is welcome to attend, bring their tech devices and assessment questions and ideas.

In this session, OPAC colleagues will discuss their core responsibilities and the resources they offer to campus.  As our partners in serving students, OPAC will share marketing tips we can all employ to improve our departmental outreach, digital presence, and overall impact.

Learning Outcomes: As a result of attending this Community Of Practice session, participants will:

1. Explain when and why to contact UCSB Public Affairs and Communications.

2. Analyze marketing 'essentials' we can use for improving our departments' communication and impact.

3. Explore new and exciting ways to tell our stories and improve our services for modern university students, parents, and colleagues.
